laser is a kind of light beam of highly concentrate energy, which can only mark on the focus point. And other position can not be marked. In this case ,it should be adjusted before marking .In order to get the best marking effect we should make the laser focus converged on the worktable.

 

2.How to find focus with outside red pointer

Here we offer you a simple and popular way of finding focus, no need to messure with ruler.It is our machine standard configuration.

Here is the outside red pointer

Machine has two red spot, one is inside, another is outside. When two red spots come into one, it means on focus.
So easy to operate, and this function is free of charge for you.

3.How to find focus without outside red pointer

open the machine and marking software, then put metal plate on the worktable ,inputting content and select the “continuous part”. Raising and falling down the pillar to find the strongest point after press the mark button.

Which position is the focus:Raising and falling down the pillar after press the mark button. Then watch carefully. You will find a position which the laser is brightest and the sound of marking is loudest. And this position is called focus point.

 

4.find focus by rule

Also we can record the distance in order to find the position of the strongest laser marking. For e.g. : F=160/163, the filed area is 110mm*110mm, the distance between edge of Lens and surface of part is 190mm (±2mm).

What is Mopa laser marking machine?  As a sales person, for this question, I was often asked. So what is the Mopa laser on earth? I will give all the persons who read my blog a best answer.

Mopa principle

Mopa is a name of laser source type. The difference between Mopa and regular fiber laser marking machine is not too big. Because, Mopa is fiber laser in principle. But Mopa’s pulse is adjustable. But for regular fiber laser machine, the laser source’s pulse is fixed. However both of them are fiber laser, the only difference in principle is whether it adjust the pulse.

Thus, why people design a laser source that could adjust laser pulse? What is it used for?

Since people can adjust the laser pulse, then it achieves multi-color marking on metal materials.

Like the video below, We used Mopa to coloring mark stainless steel.

But as you can see, the speed of color marking is very slow.  So what other advantage make Mopa still occupy the laser marking market?

At present, the aluminium oxide is a general materials for smart phone case. The Mopa laser is very good to do it. If use the regular fiber laser source to mark aluminium oxide. It won’t mark black on it. You will see it is the grey color if you see at the front.  But if you see from two sides,  it will turn to black. And you can feel burr on the material surface. But using Mopa laser, these questions will be gone.

And  If you bought a Mopa marking machine. You just set the pulse be fixed. Then the machine will become a fiber laser marking machine. Then it will enhance the speed of marking. So the Mopa laser machine could become a regular laser marking machine. So that is why, price of Mopa will higher than fiber laser. Mopa laser machine has more functions.

Some customer have confusion of Fiber and  MOPA laser, so today i write this blog to make everything clearly. Following is the difference between Raycus laser,Q-switched laser and Mopa laser.

First, MOPA laser wavelength also is 1064nm, it is belong to fiber laser, so it is just one series of fiber laser. Fiber laser has 2 types: pulse width fixed, we called it Q-switched laser source; pulse width can be adjusted, we called it MOPA laser.

Whatever Raycus laser, IPG laser even Max laser, they all have MOPA series, e.g. we can say Raycus brand MOPA series, IPG brand MOPA series. But it seems in China market when we ask Raycus/IPG laser, buyer and seller all view it as Q-switched laser source. There are 2 reasons:

1. Price matter.

IPG brand MOPA laser source is quite expensive, less people choose it. Raycus brand MOPA series also is expensive, besides Raycus mainly sell Q-switched laser source. We talked this topic before, we have to admit every company has their featured product.

2. Popularity.

IPG/Raycus/Max laser source Q-switched type are quite common in the market. While MOPA laser sell less compare with Q-switched laser source.

Laser marking is a method for labeling various kinds of objects using a laser.

The principle of laser marking is that a laser beam somehow modifies the optical appearance of a surface that it hits.

The principle of laser marking can occur through a variety of mechanisms:

  • ablation of material (laser engraving); sometimes removing some colored surface layer
  • melting a metal, thus modifying the surface structure
  • slight burning e.g. of paper, cardboard, wood, or polymers
  • transformation (e.g. bleaching) of pigments (industrial laser additives) in a plastic material
  • expansion of a polymer, if e.g. some additive is evaporated
  • generation of surface structures such as small bubbles

By scanning the laser beam (e.g. with two movable mirrors), it is possible to quickly write letters, symbols, bar codes, and other graphics, using a vector scan or a raster scan.

Another method is to use a mask which is imaged.  This method is simple and faster but less flexible than scanning.

Laser marking has a huge variety of applications:

  • adding part numbers, “use by” dates and the like on food packages, bottles, etc.
  • adding traceable information for quality control
  • marking printed circuit boards, electronic components, and cables
  • printing logos, bar codes and other information on products
