  Why should we need Auxiliary gas when we using fiber laser cutting machine cutting metal materials ? 

There are four reasons to use auxiliary gas :

  1. Firstly, the auxiliary gas will start chemical reaction with the metal material.It will help increase the working capacity.
  2. Secondly, blowing off the slag by air and clean the cutting seam.
  3. Thirdly, the gas will cool the area around cutting seam.It can avoid shape change of the material.
  4. Last but most important, It protects the Focus Lens from combustion products caused by high temperature of laser beam.

Normally, fiber laser cutting can use O2 ( Oxygen) , N (Nitrogen) and Air as auxiliary gas.

Their functions are as following respectively.

N:Cutting nonferrrous metal using Nitrogen.Such as Stainless Steel and Aluminum sheet.It can cool and protect the material.Oxygen will blacken such materials .Using Nitrogen can avoid this phenomenon of going black.

Applicable Materials: Aluminum,Aluminum Alloy, Stainless Steel, Galvanized Steel Sheet, Brass.

O2: Oxygen is used in cutting Carbon Steel. As there is many Carbonaceous impurities in carbon steel.Using O2 can greatly increase the combusting speed.As well, It can accelerate cutting speed. However, there is a disadvantage.The cutting surface will be black.The cutting surface appears black or buff.

Applicable Materials: Stainless steel, Carbon Steel.

Air: Air can be provided by Air Compressor.The price is very low. Although there is about 20% Oxygen in air, the cutting efficiency is far less than Oxygen, nearly same as Nitrogen’s efficiency.

The cutting surface appears yellow.

Applicable Materials: Aluminum, Aluminum Alloy, Stainless Steel, Galvanized Steel Sheet, nonmetal etc.

Argon: Very expensive.protecting from oxidation and nitridation. Cutting surface appears yellow.

Mainly used in Titanium and Titanium Alloy.

Laser-cut carbon steel, sometimes burrs on the edge of the workpiece, making the surface appear not smooth, and some are difficult to remove, mainly caused by the following:

Firstly,The upper and lower positions of the laser focus are not correct. It is necessary to do the focus position test and adjust according to the offset of the focus.

Secondly,The nozzle selection is not suitable, replace the nozzles.

Thirdly,The purity and pressure of the cutting gas are insufficient, and it is necessary to provide high-quality cutting working gas and increase the pressure.

Fourthly,If cut quadrilateral, the adjacent two sides will have burrs, indicating that the center of the optical path is offset, and readjust the center point of the optical path from the nozzle; if there are burrs on the two parallel sides, There is a problem with the verticality of the machine.

The verticality of the laser head can be taught according to the direction of the burr of the parallel side. Please check whether the roundness of the nozzle of the nozzle has changed. It must be ensured that the roundness of the nozzle is a full circle. .

There are many reasons why can not cut off the sheet plate. The most common ones are as follows:

Firstly, The power of the laser is reduced or the lamp is aging, so that the energy of the laser beam is not enough, and the template is not cut. Need to adjust the laser power to replace the laser generator lamp.

Secondly,the cutting speed is too fast, according to the thickness of the cutting plate to select a suitable cutting speed.

Thirdly,Check whether the output pressure of the proportional valve is consistent with the cutting pressure set by the upper computer, and whether the oxygen meter is at the indication of 10 kg.

Then,Check whether the protective lens is damaged or not, and replace the protective lens.

Next,The focus position is not suitable, and the focus position is adjusted according to the type of sheet thickness.

Finally,Under the premise of protecting the lens and cutting speed and air pressure, check whether there is any problem with the fiber interface. If there is no problem with the fiber interface, please check whether the collimating lens and the focusing lens of the laser cutting head are damaged. If there is damage. Please replace it in time.
