More and more manufacturers choose to use a fiber laser cutting. Cause it is non-contact and less consumption. Why should we need auxiliary gas when we using fiber laser cutting machine cutting metals?

Above all, reasons.

First,chemical reaction.

The gas will start chemical reaction with the metal material. It will increase the working capacity.

Second, clean.

The gas can blow off the slag by air and clean the cutting seam.

Third, avoid shape change of the material.

The gas will cool the area around cutting seam. It can avoid shape change of the material.

Last but most important, protect the lens.

To protect the focus lens. Avoid combustion products hurting lens.

Normally, O2 ( Oxygen) , N (Nitrogen) and Compressed Air will be used.

Their functions are as following.

First, N: Nitrogen is used for cutting nonferrrous metal. Such as Stainless Steel and Aluminum sheet. The gas can cool and protect the material. As such materials are easy to be blackened with Oxygen.So use Nitrogen can avoid this phenomenon of going black. It can be used to cut

aluminum alloy, stainless steel, galvanized steel sheet, brass.

Second, O2: Oxygen is used in cutting Carbon Steel and stainless steel. As there is many Carbonaceous impurities in carbon steel. So use O2 can greatly increase the combusting speed. Which as well, accelerating cutting speed. However, there is a disadvantage, the cutting surface will be black.

Third, Compressed Air: It can be provided by Air Compressor, the price is very low. Although there is about 20% Oxygen in air. The cutting efficiency is far less than Oxygen.It nearly same as Nitrogen’s efficiency.The cutting surface appears yellow. It can be used to cut aluminum, aluminum alloy, stainless steel, galvanized steel sheet, nonmetal, etc.

  • Environment and temperature.

Before we install the laser cutting machine, the room should be clean and free of dust. The temperature of the room should be reduced by 18-25.

  • Alcohol, purified water.

Prepare water with a purity of 99.99%, we need to use it to replace the lens of the laser head.
And in the future use, also need to clean the lens. The chiller needs pure water .
If the quality of purified water is not particularly good, it is recommended to change the water every 2 weeks. High-quality water, once a month.

  •  A suitable industrial voltage.

  • Prepare the lubricant.

As we know,if you want to have a better cutting effect,we need to adjust the focusing before cutting.So this article is about how to adjust the focusing of fiber laser cutting machine.

1. Testing cut, observe cutting section to judge if the focus point is too big or small. Slag (too big), Grain (to small).
2. Turn on the focal point control panel before cutting head to do manual focal point adjust.
3. When focal point data is 0, turn the focusing wheel to the left, then do cutting test.
4. When the focal point data is too small, there is slag at the rough bottom of the surface of the cutting sample (the focus is too small to cut through).
5. When the focal point data is +5 or bigger, turn the focusing wheel to the right, then do cutting test.
6. Cutting surface has obvious pattern on when the focal point data is too large.
7. After cutting test, observe the cutting surface and adjust the focusing wheel till the right data.
8. When the focal point is at the right place, the surface of the sample is smooth and without hanging slag.
9. Finish the testing.
10. Focusing adjust for carbon steel ( the same as manual laser cutting head focusing)

However, due to features in the nozzle itself and the performance of the cutting machine, it is easy for the nozzle to wear  out.

1. The nozzle „chip“, the aperture becomes larger of fiber laser cutting machine

Single-layer laser nozzles are easily deformed by flaws due to the soft material.

And in the process of mechanical operation, the nozzle will directly contact the slag.

2. The nozzle is deformed and the slag particles damage the inner lens

In the laser cutting process, there are two cases:

When the laser cutting head is  in the vertical direction, the mechanical sensing protection mechanism will stop the machine.

Then people can naturally think the collision from the horizontal direction as a collision with the laser cutting head due to the lifting of the cutting material.

When the laser cutting head is stressed, the sensor protection mechanism can stop the mechanical operation in time.

And the nozzle directly contacts the material, causing the nozzle to deform.

Continue cutting; when the laser head is lightly stressed, the sensing protection mechanism can not shut down the machine in time, causing the nozzle to enter the slag.

And the high pressure airflow will blow the slag into the laser head to cause loss.
