How To Use A Fiber Laser Marker

The following is a brief description of how to use a fiber laser marker.

It makes the assumption that the marker has a steered beam (galvo-driven) optical system.

Before you begin to mark something, first you have to answer the following three questions:

  1. What you are going to mark?
  2. Where are you going to mark it?
  3. How are you going to mark it?

What you are going to mark and where you are going to mark it have to do with the specific laser marking software that you are using.

Generally, the most challenging question to answer for new users is, “How are you going to mark it?”

To address that question, one needs to know a bit about how the fiber laser marker and the marking system work.

If you are familiar with laser marking then you probably know that the two most important settings.

U could change it and achieve the outcome u need.

First of all, it is the speed.

This is how fast the laser beam travels over the part being marked.

The galvos can usually steer the laser beam over the part much faster than the laser

Therefore, galvos rarely run at their maximum potential speed.

Galvo manufacturers will give speed specifications that state that the galvo is capable of “hundreds of characters per second.” At those speeds and for most materials, however, the laser does not have enough time on any portion of the part to do any work.

Useful speeds depend on the material and the laser power.

Speeds of 30 to 35 inches per second might be fine for removing anodize on aluminum.

But engraving deeper into metals will be better accomplished at a speed of 5 inches per second.

Secondly, it is the speed

The laser can only put out as much power as it is designed for.

Generally speaking, more power out of the laser will allow either more material removal or allow the part to be marked at higher galvo speeds.

A 20 watt fiber laser markercan only put out 20 watts.

The appropriate power to use depends on the material being marked and the desired result.

We know normal laser generator is q-switched structure. It have fixed pulse width. Color fiber laser marker need use mopa fiber laser source. It is one special fiber laser technology, which pulse width is adjusted.

We can adjust laser generator’s pulse width and frequency, so that laser generator can have different performance. This is why mopa fiber laser marker can mark color on stainless steel.

What material we can do ?

Mopa fiber laser can mark colors, but not means it can do it on all metals. Now mopa laser can only mark color on stainless steel, no any other material.

Same as normal fiber laser, mopa laser can do all same work, and it have more wide application. Also it have some advantage then normal laser. We know plastic is complex and not easy on laser marking. Due to mopa laser have adjustable pulse width, it have wide application on plastic marking then normal laser.

Except plastic and color marking, mopa laser also can do black color on anodized aluminum. Now so many product is anodized aluminum, such as phone case, mobile power etc.

What color we can mark?

Although mopa laser can do color on stainless steel, it does’t mean it can do all color. Mopa laser can only do simple color like blue, green, pink, purple etc. As for other complex color, mopa laser also can’t do it.

Fiber laser marking machine and fiber laser cutting machine is becoming one of the most important industry machine. Now there is so many machine suppliers in the market. These suppliers have big difference on machine price. also they use different fiber laser machine parts. We all know Germany is the most advanced country on laser product, many people like Germany product. But we know Germany product is very expensive. many small company in order to absorb customer, they use copy brand parts for machine.

Fiber Laser Machine Parts

For fiber laser marking machine, main parts include laser generator, galvo head, control system and F-theta lens. Laser generator is the most important fiber laser machine parts.

IPG laser source is one of the best brand in laser fields, so many people like it. But its price is very high. So many people use other small brand laser source instead real IPG. They do similar outside shape with IPG then use IPG’s label. Then they sold laser source with very low price and told customer they use IPG laser. Many customer is green hand and have no learning on it and buy this kind of machine.

Actually copy IPG is lower than many Chinese brand, but many green hand don’t know it and think it is real IPG so they buy. But when they get machine, machine have high broken rate and lifetime is very short.

To be honest, it is very easy to check whether it is real IPG laser. Each laser source have one special serial number and we can check it from IPG company. Of course, if one company offer far cheap price then others, also we should think about it.

In China market, the most popular copy parts is control system, include control board and software. We know most standard fiber laser marker use JCZ control system in China market. Actually, large company use copy software. It don’t come from JCZ company and from some small unname company. They will do old version JCZ control board and software then sold to some small company.

How to distinguish copy and original control system

Real control board have serial number and „JCZ“ character on control board. Copy board don’t have it. some board have letter „IPG“.

Additional, copy software can’t update and can’t use original software which download from JCZ website. This is the best solution for customer to distinguish copy software and original software.

Another common copy part is galvo head. Now many small company said they use Scanlab galvo head. Actually nearly no real Scanlab in China market. We communicate with Scablab company before, one real galvo head need more than 3000usd.  So if people said they use Scanlab galvo head, 99% it is fake.

Control System

Control system include two part: control board and control software The most common fiber laser marker control system is JCZ control board and Ezcad software.

Original JCZ control board have JCZ logo and special serial number on the surface. Now there is many copy control board in China market, usually it have mark like „IPG“,“FIBER LASER“, but no „JCZ“ logo and serial number.

Original Ezcad software could update and support WIN7/8/10/XP 64bits. The copy software can’t be update.

Between original control system and copy control system, usually it have 200usd difference.

Laser Scanning Head

In all China brand laser scanning head, Century Sunny is the best one but its price is much more higher than others. So usually we only use it on some high request fiber laser marker.

Except Century Sunny, Sino is alternative one. its quality is better than other small brand.

Spare Parts

When we check machine price, we should know what detail parts included in this price. The optional parts include working table, extra ed pointer, pedal, protective glasses.

1.The comparison for different laser source with fiber laser marker

For most of the customers, what they are familiar with is the IPG laser source.

IPG is the best brand in Germany,high quality and stability.

Some European and Indian customers would prefer this type laser source.

As we know, fiber laser marker has wide application in the metal industry.

Many customers applying into the metal industry ask for the fiber laser marking machine.

For example, they mark on the stainless steel, aluminium, carbon steel,brass etc.

In these days,i met with a customer from South Africa on the exhibition.

He is a producer of stainless steel products.

He sent us a mail  asking for marking on the coated stainless steel.

Actually we have met with many customers asking for marking on the coated stainless steel.

But he didn’t know whether our machine could mark on it or not.

For this coated stainless steel, our machine could mark with no problem.

However, this type material is a little different with the stainless steel.

For the coated stainless steel, the minimum we introduce to the customer is 30w.

This type machine need remove the surfacing Spray paint firstly, and then do marking on the stainless steel.

If the customer choose the 20w machine, the time would be longer.

Besides, long time working may influence the lifetime of the laser source.
