Fiber laser metal cutter operation

Fiber laser metal cutter has better and better market now. Many customer start to change plasma and waterjet to fiber laser. As fiber laser has higher precision and higher speed.

When you got a fiber laser with a big amont money. Do you know how to maintance and operate? Here sare some items for reference.

When you got machine installed in factory. Then you can do some usual check and maintance as below.

a. First  Get familiar with the fiber laser cutter. Then  learn the safety, technical and management rules.

b. Engineer who operate machine should be trained .  And well known the machine. Also  Strictly follow the use instructions.

c. Make sure operators wear protective glass. To provent from any burn danger from laser .

d. Make sure the electrity power supply stable, gas , water in safe condition. When any emergency, turn off the main power.

e. Keep the room air clean and hygienic, for both machine lifetime and operator health.

f. Keep workshop temprature 5-30 °C. Also ensure the water chiller work normally , not freezing.

g. Always check the lubrication condition of the equipment. If any abnormality is found, it must shut down immediately for maintenance.

So if you turn on the laser without authorization, you will be at your own risk.

h. Also operator can not leave the production site in the boot state. And to prevent „rocker“ hit the cutting head.

Fiber laser cutting machine maintenance in Winter – Alex

With the development of laser technology, more and more manufacturer start to use fiber laser cutting machine in metal cutting process. Although we said fiber laser cutting machine is free-maintenance machine. But in winter we need some measure to protective machine’s working.

Anti Freezing

The most common problems in winter is freeze. Some region’s temperature will be below 0℃ in winter. The water chillier may be freeze after stop working, so we need do some  procedures to avoid this problem.

Pls tale care about anti-freezing liquid can’t replace water and we can’t use it whole year. After winter, we need clean the chillier and pipe with purified water then only use purified water.

So much anti-freezing liquid will increase the resistance of water cycle, so we need add it according to temperature.

  • Evacuate all water in water chillier and pipe when machine not work.

How to evacuate water

1.Switch off machine power, then open the blow-down valve and evacuate all water in refrigerator.

2.Loose the screw for drainage on water pump and evacuate all water in pump.

3.Take off the water pipe in the back of water tank. Connect 0.2Mpa gas to the water pipe end and evacuate all water in laser generator.

4.Connect 0.2Mpa gas to other water pipe and evacuate all water in fiber laser cutting head.

Take care: High gas pressure for water draining may damage fiber laser generator. so need control the pressure serious.

Change cooling water

We don’t need change cooling water frequently in winter, but also need to change it timely. Cooling water will be full of impurity if use so long time.

Now fiber laser main used on ss and ms, only few times we use it cut aluminum and brass. Because these material is high reflective material and it may damage laser source.

  • Plasma cutting machine

Different with fiber laser cutting machine, plasma cutting machine have advantage when cut thick material. No matter stainless steel or mild steel, we can use it cut more than 20mm, 30mm, 40mm even more. Also this kind machine cost is low.

Plasma cutting is not good on thin metal cutting. When we use it cut thin metal, the cutting edge have much slag. We need do second processing to remove the slag then can use these parts. In this case, its precision also is not very well.

  • Press brake

Prass brake have many years factory, also used on most metal processing factory. Now most people who use press brake buy fiber laser cutting machine, as this two machine is complementary.

  • Waterjet

Waterjet is very very old machine, its biggest advantage is it can cut many different kind material, include steel, stone, plastic etc. Also it can cut any thickness. But the biggest probelm is its speed is so low. Additional, it will use many water and have heavy pollution.

High-reflective material will reflect laser light then may hurt laser source and waist laser power. So there is some special protective way for laser source. There is a high quality laser source: n-LIGHT laser source. It has a extra protective lens in laser source. When cutting material reflect laser light back to laser source, it will prevent laser light to save the power.
