Laser cutting works by having focused and precise laser beam run through the material that you are looking to cut. Initially, the laser is used to pierce the material with a hole at the edge. And then the beam is continued along from there.
The laser being used essentially melts the material away that it is run over. so is more like melting than cutting. This means it can easily cut light materials such as cloth up to tougher metals and gemstones such as diamonds.
You can use either a pulsed laser beam or a continuous wave laser beam, with the former being delivered in short bursts while the latter works continuously. You can control the beam intensity, length and heat output depending on the material you are working with, and can also user a mirror or special lens to further focus the laser beam.
Laser cutting is a highly accurate process, thanks to this high level of control that you are offered. Thanks to this, slits with a width as small as 0.1mm can be achieved when using the laser cut process.
There are three main types of laser cut:
C02 laser cutting
C02 laser cutting process is done using a gas laser. The gas in question is a carbon dioxide mixture which has been electrically stimulated. C02 laser cutting is most often used on non-metal materials as they have a wavelength of 10.6 micrometres.
Crystal laser cutting
Crystal laser cutting uses nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) and nd:YVO (neodymium-doped yttrium ortho-vanadate) lasers. These are crystals which belong in the solid state group of lasers, and have the same wavelength as fiber lasers, around 1.064 micrometres. This means that they are useful for both metals and non-metals.
However, this type of laser machine is made up from expensive pump diodes, which can be costly when needed to be replaced; typically, after 8,000 – 15,000 hours of use. The crystal used also has a much shorter service life than that of a fiber laser.

Fiber laser cutting
This type of laser cutting process is completed using a fiber laser, the type of lasers that we have here at SPI Lasers. Like the method of crystal laser cutting above, fiber lasers belong to the solid state group too.
A beam is created using a ‘seed laser’, which is then amplified using glass fibers and pump diodes. They have the same wavelength as above, 1.064 micrometres. This means that the laser beam for a fiber laser is roughly 100 times greater than that of a C02 laser when it comes to intensity. It also means that they can work with both metal and non-metal materials.
A fiber laser is the most useful of the three laser types. Alongside the benefits listed above, they are often maintenance free, require much cheaper replacement parts, and have a much longer service life of around 25,000 usage hours.

With the development of laser technology, fiber laser cutting machine become more and more popular on sheet metal cutting fields.
Several years ago, YAG laser cutting machine and CO2 laser cutting machine have occupy a large market. Recent years fiber laser cutting machine is instead YAG & Co2 laser cutting machine and other traditional cutting solution, such as EDM, Plasma cutting, water jet cutting and Wire EDM.

Every year we will take part in many oversea exhibition, it have big help for our band promotion. This month we participate in two exhibition in Russia and Malaysia. In 2018, still we have exhibition plan in India, Germany, Italy etc, all we will take fiber laser cutter there.
Why FIBER LASER CUTTER?
Fiber laser cutting machine is big machine, it will take high cost when we take it go to exhibition. Why still we take fiber laser cutting machine to oversea exhibition?
Fiber laser cutter is different with fiber laser marking machine, it is not cheap machine. Most customers prefer to see machine first then make decision. Although oversea exhibition will take high cost, it have big help for our brand promotion and customer will trust us more. Then machine sod will be easy in local.

In next few months, we will go to India, Germany and Italy. India is a super big market on laser machine. Although its price is very low, the sales volume is very large. Nobody can ignore this market.
Germany and Italy are the leader of fiber laser technology, most famous laser company build in these two country. So we select extend the market to the birthplace of laser.

There is so many different metal cutting equipment in the market. So it may let us confused when choice suitable machine. In this case, how can choose suitable laser cutting equipment or other cutting equipment?

1. Fine plasma cutting
Precision plasma cutting most suitable 0.45 ~ 50mm thick carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum as well as within the thickness of 160mm. But it is not belong to laser cutting equipment.

2. Fiber laser cutting
Fiber laser metal cutting machine is the latest laser technology and laser cutting equipment. The use of solid-state laser generator is more efficient than conventional CO2 laser, and the wavelength of the fiber laser is suitable for conducting the valuables of fiber, compared to only use CO2 laser mirror reflection conducted more flexible, easier to maintain. (3) productivity in carbon and stainless steel is very slow, can quickly cut aluminum.
(4) precision waterjet cutting member of accuracy is the best of all the cutting process, the cutting element is about tolerance of ± 0.13mm. Slope within 1o.
(5) edge quality and metallurgical properties has no effect on the metallurgical properties of the material being cut. Smooth section, cut quality and grit and cutting speed.

Now there is many different metal cutting equipment in the market. Fiber laser cutting machine is one of the most advanced solution. It is becoming more and more popular as its excellent cutting effect and low running cost. Compared with tradition cutting equipment, fiber laser cutter should be the most economic machine.
Fiber laser cutting machine may include 3 parts running cost, electric power, auxiliary gas and quick wear parts.
Electric power cost for fiber laser cutting machine
There is three main part need use electric power, laser source, machine bed and water chillier. Follow date based on 1000w fiber laser source.
We know fiber laser source have very high photoelectric conversion, and it is about 25%. So one set 1000w laser source will cost 4kw power per hour. About machine bed, the main electric power cost parts are servo motor, reducer and control system, and servo motor is main. Now we total use 4 sets servo motor for 1500*3000mm fiber laser cutting machine. Its total power is about 4kw. Water chiller also have high power cost, for 1000w laser source, the suitable chillier will cost about 3kw per hour. In this case, one set 1000w fiber laser cutter’s total power cost is 11kw.
But actually, one machine’s real cost is only about 60%. As it is not possible if all parts keep running with full power. So one 1000w fiber laser machine only cost about 6.6kw/hour. We get this date from thousands of test. Nearly no any machine can cost less then fiber laser.
Auxiliary gas
Fiber laser cutting need use auxiliary gas. Mild steel need use O2 gas, and other metals main use N2 gas. Also we can use compressed gas when cut thin ss and ms less than 2mm. Auxiliary gas cost have relation with metal thickness, so we can’t list it here, and just some recommend for reference.
According to our experience and customers‘ feedback, liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen is better. First, liquid gas is cheaper. Second, each tank have some rest when using. As its pressure become low so that we can’t use it on running. But when we use liquid gas, it is one big tank, no need change tank always. So all gas will be use.
Quick wear parts
Fiber laser cutting machine quick wear parts main include protective lens, focus lens, nozzle and ceramic rings. Their lifetime is about 500 hours and Ceramic rings lifetime is about 1 year. Protective lens and nozzle is cheap and about 15~30usd/piece. Ceramic ring not more than 100usd/piece. Focus lens is about 150usd/piece.
Except above cost, fiber laser cutting machine near have no any other running cost. Even its price is very high when we buy, but running cost should be the cheapest.
Besides the main machine configurations,you should also focus on the machine body.
